Skin Revitalization

Why revitalize your skin?

We want to reverse the signs of sun damage, remove unwanted spots and facial veins and even out our skin tone. Getting that glow back on our face so make-up is not a necessity. Skin revitalization is a nonsurgical light based treatment that will improve your skin’s appearance in just 1 to 3 treatments. Advanced light treatment with the ICON by Cynosure clears undesirable brown spots (age spots), sun damage and vessels on your skin, thereby improving the appearance of your skin for a more youthful look.*

What is unique about advanced light based treatments is that spots and vessels are targeted without damaging the surrounding skin. The light is delivered underneath your skin causing spots and vessels to disappear slowly through your own body’s natural healing process. The color or vessels under your skin come up from underneath and either fall off or are absorbed by your body. You can expect your skin to look more youthful and get a healthy glow.*

What does the treatment feel like?

How the light treatment feels depends on the level of treatment being performed and the type of color irregularities that you have. However if you are sensitive a topical anesthetic can be applied 20-30 minutes prior to the treatment. The device has a smooth cool surface and each pulse causes a snapping or burning sensation much like a rubber band. After each zap onto the area of the skin to be treated the next section is overlapped. When the treatment is completed a cold compress can be applied to alleviate discomfort and a laser gel applied to cool the skin. Always a moisturizer and sunscreen is applied after the treatment.*

Are there immediate side effects?

After the treatment your skin may feel a little warm, be red and slightly swollen like a bad sunburn that resolves within 1-3 days. Depending on the type of light administered mild bruising, crusting, and scabbing, darkened patches and in rare cases a mild blister can occur.*

What results can I expect?

The results depend on the type of treatment you are receiving. Within 2-3 weeks of the first treatment the skin will look and feel smoother, have more even skin tone and be clear and bright.*

How many treatments will I need?

Best results are after a series of 3-5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Maintenance is once every 6 months.*

After a long hot summer on the beach the perfect place to start is with an advanced light based treatment. Once your tan is faded all the damage can be seen and attacked to reduce the signs of aging skin.*

We all know the sun is damaging when it comes to skin. Those pesky sun spots, premature aging and sagging skin are really serious conditions that have everyone taking cover and, for those of you who aren’t, here are just a few statistics that will scare you into reaching for some powerful sun protection and treating your damaged skin.*

Indoor Tanning

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), studies have found a 59-percent increase in the risk of melanoma in those who have been exposed to UV radiation from indoor tanning, and the risk increases with each use. An even scarier statistic? On an average day in the United States., more than 1 million people still make the trip to a tanning salon! That’s a lot of people upping their chance for melanoma every day.*

Age of Exposure

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, more than 90 percent of the visible changes commonly attributed to skin aging are caused by the sun. So those pesky spots, uneven skin tone and sagging skin are the bulk of your sun exposure already occurring before age 18. However, we know that we can reverse and revitalize a significant percent of lifetime exposure with the use of technology today. So it’s definitely not too late to make a difference in how your skin will age if you are past your teen years.*

Effectiveness of Sunscreen

Even if you are completely diligent about applying sunscreen 365 days a year, the AAD says that alone really isn’t enough. First, you need to make sure your sunscreen has these three features: a water-resistant formula, an SPF of 40 or greater and broad-spectrum (both UVA and UVB) protection. In addition, it is recommend to reapply every two hours, wear protective clothing (like a long-sleeved shirt or hat), seek shade between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and take extra caution whenever you are near water, snow or sand, as they reflect rays and increases the chance of you getting burned.*

So it doesn’t stop with light based treatment. Reverse the damage now! Advanced light based treatment is the first step in your skin revitalization journey. Quick and easy with minimal to no downtime an undoubtable cost effective treatment.*

IPL – Photo Facial Description:

Photo rejuvenation (IPL- Intense Pulsed Light) laser treatments are most commonly used for lightening and removing “sun spots”, “age spots” and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body. IPL treatments are also wonderful for lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and “broken” blood vessels on the face, neck and chest.*

Additionally, IPL also has the effect of improving skin texture through collagen stimulation. Photo rejuvenation, consists of a series of 3-6 treatments, usually once every three to six weeks. The benefits of Photo rejuvenation treatments are achieved with little to no discomfort or downtime.*

Treatable Areas: Face, Neck & Décolleté

What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Also known as a “photofacial” treatment it delivers broadband light through the skin for Skin rejuvenation. IPL helps restore a youthful looking skin intended for photo aged or sun damaged skin. It helps decrease facial redness, lessen the appearance of pigmented spots, reduce pore size and improve texture and fine lines.*

How does IPL work?

IPL delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light that is non-ablative, meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin. The intense light is delivered to the deeper parts of the skin (dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (epidermis) untouched.*

Who is a good candidate for IPL?

Patients with rosacea, red flushed faces secondary to acne rosacea, facial blood vessels and capillaries, sun damaged skin, pigmented facial spots and enlarged pores.*

Who is NOT a good candidate for IPL?

Darker complexions, tanned skin, spray tans or recently tanned skin individuals are generally not good candidates for the treatment. Men who wish to have facial treatments, should note the beard /mustache area can have patchy hair loss after a session, so may not want to treat this area where regular facial hair grows.*

How quickly do patients see results?

After one or two treatments, your skin will have more even tone and a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will start to fade and pores can become less apparent. Fine lines and wrinkles may soften over time. These improvements continue with each treatment. Patient with acne rosacea will see a reduction in facial redness as a result of each treatment.*

What are the side effects?

Post-treatment pinkness and mild discomfort like a sunburn sensation possibly for a few hours. Areas treated may be prone to hyperpigmentation. Avoidance of the sun and wearing sunscreen daily are advised. Because all individuals are different, we generally will begin your sessions at a more conservative level then progressively increase the treatment levels. This will minimize any unwanted side effects and any potential skin burns, yet develop an ideal treatment protocol for each individual.*
